Unity of Pomona members love to give and we invite you to join any or all of our seasonal gift giving projects or ongoing collections.
Our Stocking Tree for Children removed from their Homes with Nothing on their Feet: Once again we support the work of the Binky Patrol by collecting all sizes of socks for children to be giving in emergency situations. Instead of shinny bangles on our Christmas Tree, we decorate our tree with our socks, making it the most beautiful tree in the world in our eyes.
Washable Stuffed Animals are warming our Sanctuary Seats: Each Sunday we invite our congregation to hold, hug and fill stuffed animals with love to share with children without homes through the Binky Patrol. We believe those cute faces willed with love will be a comfort to the children who receive them.
The Department of Children and Family Services invited us to fill Christmas Stockings for a family of 8 children. It is amazing how quickly those stockings have filled up with everything from personal items to Movie Tickets. More small items are welcome. We cherish our relationship with DCFS as a Community Partner as we find ways to help children and families in our community.
Interfaith Toy Drive with the Pomona Unified School District. Our Unity and Diversity Interfaith Group has joined with other faith groups including some people from the Islamic Center of Inland Empire to share toys with a class at Barfield Elementary School. The toys are for children ages 7 to 10 and range in price from $10-$20 each. We plan to deliver the toys this week and present a model of interfaith and cultural diversity as we give each child 2 toys, one to keep and one to share with another child. Passing on the joy of giving is part of the gift we hope the children receive, as school confront issues of bullying.
A Teen Rehab Center in Tijuana received many donations from our Unity Church. Jacqi Morrison went though our donations and gave about 4 large bags of clothes, 2 pairs of shoes, 3 puzzles, 7 Spanish books from the bookstore, several La Palabras (Spanish Daily Words)and $40 for 2 mattresses to Joe De la Garza for a teen rehab center in Tijuana called Circad 3. The contact was through Doris Davis, a Unity Interfaith friend of Jan’s.The online donation site is www. cortijuana.org. Phone contact # is 818 825-6400. Thank you, Jacqi.
Our Food Collection box continues to bless many in need. Please bring nonperishable items to she with those less fortunate.
Small toiletry items are collected to help the homeless. We are collaborating with the Islamic Center of Inland Empire to get these items to those who need them and appreciate continued donations from the community of soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, body lotions and hand cleansers. Thank you Sharen Whitaker for your fantastic donation of new Avon products.
We are blessed to receive so many donations from the larger community and will continue to receive the following Christmas itemsthrough Sunday, Dec. 19 at noon: socks, stuffed animals, and small gifts for the DCFS Family Christmas Stockings .
